Emily Masengale is the founding principal of Christel House DORS. Originally from Indianapolis, Emily spent her teaching career in St. Louis Public Schools as a member of Teach for America. She worked at an alternative high school serving students at risk of dropping out. She was named the 2009 St. Louis Public Schools Teacher of the Year and a finalist for the Missouri Teacher of the Year. She returned to Indianapolis in 2010 as the first Indianapolis Principal Fellow, a partnership between Teach for America Indianapolis and Columbia University Teachers College in New York. She holds a B.A. from Indiana University in special education, a M.A. in educational leadership from Saint Louis University and a M.Ed. in organization and leadership from Columbia University.
DORS is a Christel House Academy managed and supported school. It is authorized by the Mayor of Indianapolis as a public charter school.
